Hello there. Well, you appear to have found my blog, so I suppose I’d better introduce myself. My name is Carl MacDonald. I’m a 19 year old student who hails from Scunthorpe (don’t judge me just yet!)
I’m currently in my first year of a three year degree in Journalism at the University of Lincoln, and to be honest, I’m loving it. I had a bad experience with university the year before; I initially embarked on a History degree, but I found myself in dire straits before long. I hated it, but I locked myself away and never told anyone, anxious of not letting my parents down, who had been so proud at my achievements of getting that far. In the end though, I cracked, and I was on the brink of quitting the uni life altogether. But I gathered my thoughts, and decided that I could do something with my life that I love doing. I want to be a journalist; I have a passion for writing and reporting, so there was only one thing for it. I was to switch courses, and start over again. What a decision that proved to be. I’m so much happier now, and uni is now something I enjoy, rather than a chore.
I’m a typical student really; I enjoy socialising, but my lack of money often tries to stop me doing so. Nevertheless, I enjoy myself whenever I can, and am (nearly) always up for a laugh.
It might be fair to say I lead something of a ‘double life’. In the week, it’s work work work at university, where I live with four fellow students. But of a weekend, I return home to see my girlfriend Becky.
I’ve decided that I should start this blog, as a forum for me to communicate my thoughts and feelings, and to get things off my chest. The journalism world is changing; younger generations are now turning to the internet for their regular fix of news, and so perhaps this is the best place for me to get myself noticed.
So, if you’re a regular here, you can expect ramblings about pretty much anything and everything that’s happening in my life. I’m a massive football fan, and follow Scunthorpe United religiously, and so my thoughts on that will no doubt be prominent. I’m actually a fan’s diarist for the club, and have a weekly blog entry posted on the official website, so you can check that out if you so wish.
I’m also mad on music, so perhaps you’ll get insights into my CD collection, and recent concerts I’ve attended.
In addition, I’ll put across my opinions and feelings on current world affairs, and generally anything I have on my mind that I feel like sharing.
So keep checking back, and be sure to leave comments!
I’m off for a jog now, so I’ll catch you soon. Cheers, Carl.
